What's Included

From the time we meet until the time we shake hands goodbye, we have everything fishing taken care of! Our guides are expert high-country fly anglers, patient teachers, and incredibly accommodating hosts. All fly rods, reels, lines, tippets, and flies are taken care of. If you break off, grab another rod while we re-rig. The cooler is loaded with ice and waters with plenty of room for your lunch, snacks, and beverages of choice.

Target Species

cutthroat

Cutthroat Trout

We're targeting cutthroat in active pocket water with spot-and-stalk tactics—sight casting to trout in the tails of pools or underneath overhangs. Like the gold miners who once worked these lands, you'll be "panning for gold," searching for the distinctive pop of color on these high-country cutties.

Brook Trout

These aren't picky eaters; in fact, they're insatiable and incredibly fun to catch on dry flies. While you still need to present your fly well, it's a great starting point for any angler and an excellent option for dry fly fishing. Expect to find gorgeous brookies typically around 7 inches in length.

Rainbow Trout

The rainbow trout in the sections of the Conejos we fish are stocked, but that doesn't mean they don't fight! They get abnormally huge due to the abundance of insect life in the Conejos River. You can expect to have trophy-sized fish on a regular basis here.

Brown Trout

The Conejos River boasts a healthy population of wild brown trout, which we catch on everything from nymphs to streamers. These brown trout are incredible fighters, feeding on the smorgasbord of aquatic insects in one of the state's most fertile rivers.

Colorado Fly Fishing

Many of these intimate creeks, though sometimes as narrow as four feet wide, provide exceptional dry fly fishing opportunities. The team at About Trout, having grown up creek fishing, delights in sharing the pure joy and solitude of targeting wild trout with dry flies in these remote settings. For multi-day adventures, we recommend staying in Silverton, Colorado, to fully immerse yourself in this unparalleled high-country experience.

Gear We Use

We pride ourselves on using the highest quality tackle and gear. From our fly lines to the drift boats, all of our equipment is meticulously maintained. We know anglers may want to bring their own gear, but if you want to travel a little lighter, you'll be fighting Saun Juan River trout on professional equipment all day.
